The Russian state corporation Rosatom announced the death of the chief engineer of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Alexander Yakovlev. According to the Russian side, the car he was in was hit by a drone near the industrial site of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant .

According to the Russian state corporation, driver Dmitry Filippov died along with Yakovlev. Rosatom claims that a drone attacked a Toyota Camry official car on the border of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the temporarily occupied Energodar.
The Director General of Rosatom called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to provide a “prompt, specific and clear response” to the incident. The IAEA confirmed that it had received information from the Russian side about the death of the chief engineer of the ZNPP.
At the same time, Oleksandr Yakovlev is included in the database of the Myrotvorets center. There, he is listed as a person who, according to the resource, collaborated with the Russian occupation administration, facilitated the operation of the captured Zaporizhzhia NPP, and participated in activities related to nuclear blackmail of Ukraine.
Before the full-scale invasion, Yakovlev worked at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant as an employee of a Ukrainian enterprise.
