Trump’s “appeasement peace plan” will not work.

Ukrainians more than anyone want peace. But the idea to stop fighting with russia and just divide Ukraine along the current frontline is very naive. There will be no peace.

Trump likes to point out that during his presidency there was peace in Ukraine. That is simply not true. Russia started the war against Ukraine in 2014 and people were dying daily in Ukraine during Trump’s presidency and he did not end the war then.

The idea that russia will magically stop future aggressions is naive. Putin has already signed a treaty in 2014 and then expanded his aggression in 2022.

Also, russia signed a peace treaty with Chechnia in 1996, only to get better prepared and come back in 1999. As a result, 25% of Chechens were killed, and the survivors were brutally forced to serve russia. Some of them are now in Ukraine as part of the russian army.

Ukrainians do not want the same fate. That is why the “appeasement peace plan” for many Ukrainians is worse than the current war. Appeasement will not stop russia, as it did not stop them in the past. Ukrainians need a real peace for generations, not a pause for a couple of years.

Russia attacked the house of russian opposition leader Ilya Ponomarev near Kyiv with an Iranian drone “Shahed”.

Ilya and his wife were wounded, but their lives are not in danger. Ponomarev called the incident his “second birthday.” He added that this is the fifth attempt to assassinate him and “more successful than the previous ones.”

Ponomarev was the only russian Member of Parliament who voted against the annexation of Crimea in 2014. Following that vote, he was forced to flee from russia to Ukraine.
