The German concern plans to produce shells, military equipment, gunpowder and air defense weapons in our country.
The German concern Rheinmetall plans to build at least four weapons factories in Ukraine. Le Monde reports this .
It is noted that future enterprises will produce shells, military equipment, gunpowder and air defense weapons.
“Ukraine is now an important partner for us, we see potential there of two to three billion euros per year,” said Armin Papperger, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rheinmetall.
The publication notes that the total turnover of the Düsseldorf group, manufacturer of the Leopard 2 tank, reached 7.2 billion euros in 2023, and is expected to reach about 10 billion euros this year. In mid-February, the largest German manufacturer of military equipment announced an agreement with a Ukrainian company to produce 155-mm artillery shells in Ukraine, which the country desperately needs in the war against the Russian aggressor.
“This installation, for which the groundwork will soon be made at an unknown location, will be a copy of the ammunition factory that Rheinemetall is now building at its historical site in northern Germany, in Unterlüss. Lithuania should also soon host an ammunition factory from the group,” the media writes .
According to Papperger, across all of its sites, Rheinmetall expects a total production of 1.1 million 155mm projectiles in the medium term to strengthen its position as a world leader in this field.
“The group is expected to produce 700,000 shells in 2025 and up to 500,000 this year. Before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Rheinmetall produced only 70,000 per year,” the publication summarizes.
