Republican Congressman Fitzpatrick asks Trump for emergency briefing on Ukraine aid suspension

Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick has called on US President Donald Trump in a letter to hold an emergency briefing for Congress on the suspension of the supply of crucial military aid to Ukraine.

The text of the letter was published by former Voice of America journalist Ostap Yarysh,  Censor.NET reports .

The Republican noted that he is concerned about the news that the United States has suspended the delivery of already agreed aid to Ukraine in a situation where Russia continues its summer offensive campaign and has intensified air strikes on Ukrainian cities.

“While the United States needs to strengthen our defense-industrial base at home, we can and must at the same time provide critically needed assistance to our allies who are defending their freedom from the barbaric invasion of dictators. Not doing both is unacceptable,” the congressman emphasizes.

Fitzpatrick noted that Ukraine is fighting not only for its freedom, but also for the entire democratic world.

“Now is the crucial moment: Ukraine’s bravery must continue to be responded to with action, and the United States must maintain its leadership role… There can be no half measures in defending freedom,” the American official adds.

“I respectfully request an urgent briefing from the White House and the Department of Defense regarding the Pentagon’s latest reviews of our weapons and ammunition stockpiles, as well as the decision to suspend critically needed and life-saving military assistance to Ukraine,” Fitzpatrick concluded.

The US has suspended aid to Ukraine

Earlier, media reported that the US had suspended the shipment of missiles and ammunition to Ukraine due to concerns about the state of American arsenals. Later, the White House confirmed the suspension of the supply of missiles and ammunition to Ukraine and stated that US interests were the priority.

A PBS journalist said that in addition to PAC-3 interceptor missiles intended for Patriot systems, the Pentagon has also stopped the supply of 155-mm artillery shells, GMLRS missiles intended for the M270 MLRS and HIMARS systems, Stinger anti-tank missiles, as well as AIM-7 and Hellfire air-to-air missiles.

The Ministry of Defense stated that Ukraine has not received official notifications about the suspension or revision of schedules for the delivery of defense assistance from the United States, agreed upon under the previous administration.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a video address on July 2,  spoke about the progress of negotiations with the United States on the suspension of defense assistance.
