Academician Sergei Glazyev, close to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, and oligarch Konstantin Malofeev, known for his nationalist views , released a joint post detailing several options for disarming Starlink satellites, according to the military portal “Military.”

They believe Russia is capable of cutting off communications links on the ocean floor to disrupt data centers. They also stated that they could consider attempting to disable the Starlink satellites, explaining this as an attempt to “blind Ukraine” on the battlefield.

“Starlink is not a geostationary satellite constellation; they move at incredible speed. Destroying the satellites over Ukraine alone is impossible. The entire system must be targeted,” the two experts write.

To disrupt satellite operations, it is proposed to use the Volna Kupol Garant system—a specialized electronic warfare system costing approximately $1.5 million per unit. It is supposedly capable of directing a powerful high-frequency signal directly at a passing Starlink satellite, temporarily “jamming” it. The developers designed the system with the expectation that it would disrupt communications within a radius of up to 20 square kilometers.

Russia is also developing the Tobol and Tirada-2 systems, as well as the Alabuga electromagnetic weapon project. These are strategic-level stationary and mobile systems designed for electronic jamming of satellite communications over large areas, and have never been used before.

In their article, Glazyev and Malofeev go even further, proposing physically shooting down satellites. They believe the A-235 Nudol and S-500 Prometey anti-missile systems could be used for this purpose. Their capabilities make them capable of intercepting objects in low Earth orbit.

They also consider the possibility of creating chaos in orbit using indiscriminate weapons. Specifically, they write about platforms capable of ejecting hundreds of thousands of metal balls into orbit. A collision with such an element would guarantee the destruction or incapacitation of the satellite’s solar panels and electronics. This would trigger the Kessler effect—an avalanche-like destruction of everything at that altitude.

“The majority of strikes will be on solar panels. Their debris will also become our weapons, which will finish off the groups,” the Russians claim.

They didn’t stop there and proposed detonating a nuclear weapon in space. Such an action, they believed, would “disable the electronics of hundreds and thousands of satellites in low orbit.”

Let us add that any of these actions will destroy all satellites, including the small Russian group, but this does not stop the Putinists.

“We can no longer attack Musk’s brainchild without paying a fee. But it’s still the best option. The legal consequences of such a decision are irrelevant,” they write.
