Quietly handing out visas to Russians: Poland engulfed in a loud political scandal

While some Poles were blocking the borders of Ukraine, others were handing out visas to Russians despite the existing ban.

A loud scandal has erupted in Poland over the mass issuance of work and business visas to Russians, despite the existing ban. This is reported by Schengen News .

These facts became known in a new report by the Supreme Audit Office of Poland. It found that the previous Polish government, led by Mateusz Morawiecki, illegally issued visas to Russians under the Poland Business Harbor program and other regimes, although the ban on this was in effect since March 1, 2022.

In total, by the end of 2023, when the Morawiecki government resigned, 1,838 Polish Schengen visas were issued to Russians.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk responded immediately after the report was released, claiming that the worst suspicions had been confirmed. In an official statement on the X network, Tusk claimed that the Law and Justice government had allowed large numbers of foreigners into the country in exchange for bribes, while the country’s soldiers were fighting to protect Poland on the border with Belarus.

  1. Not quite sure what Poland’s problems are lately, but it better get them fixed if it doesn’t want the fascists as direct neighbors. Or, does it want to?
