As Russia continues to wage its war against Ukraine, censorship in Russia is becoming more and more prevalent every single day. Apps like Telegram and YouTube are being blocked or throttled, and new restrictions on VPNs attempt to punish those who circumvent the rules. Information control and propaganda in Russia is nothing new, however, so to many people, these developments seem like just more of the same. They’re not. In this video I explain how Russia has moved from speech control to thought control – a huge escalation that shows an increasing paranoia in Moscow, in the Kremlin, and in Vladimir Putin.
