The world is a better place when the United States has a strong leader, according to the former British prime minister.

Russian ruler Vladimir Putin would not have invaded Ukraine if Donald Trump had been US president, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson suggested in an interview with The Telegraph .

The world is a better place when the United States has a strong leader, he said, adding that “Trump’s unpredictability” would be enough to convince Putin not to risk war with a sovereign country:

“From the Kremlin’s perspective, there was a real risk that Trump would interpret an attack on a European country as an affront to America and the world order.”

Johnson believes that one of Trump’s virtues is his sheer unpredictability, which is one of the reasons why he looks “at how he has actually behaved in foreign affairs and compares that with what people say about him.””He kicked out 60 Russian spies. He was much tougher on Syria than the Democratic administration. He was tougher on the IRGC, and then he gave the Ukrainians a Javelin missile,” the politician says.

He also noted that Ukraine should not be afraid of a new Trump presidency, since Ukraine’s fight is absolutely existential for freedom and democracy in Europe, “and if Ukraine falls, it will be an absolute catastrophe.”

“And he (Trump – UNIAN) understands that. I don’t think he wants to go down in history as the guy who started his second term not by making America great, but by making the Soviet Union great again. All human institutions need a leader. In the world, America is the leader. And I think the world is happier and more prosperous when you have a strong America and a strong leader, and when people feel that some kind of order is being maintained,” Johnson concluded.
