The West represented a symbolic breakthrough for Putin, who has been diplomatically isolated since 2022 over his invasion of Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin held their first high-profile summit on American soil in years. The leaders displayed friendship and exchanged compliments, but reached no agreement on ending the war in Ukraine. For Putin, the summit was a demonstrative break from isolation, The New York Times reports.
The meeting took place at a military base in Anchorage. Trump greeted Putin with a red carpet, applause and even offered him a ride in the presidential limousine. Both emphasized “significant progress” in the talks, but no concrete decisions were announced.
Putin said he had established “good and reliable contact” with Trump, inviting him to visit Moscow. Trump responded that it was an “interesting idea.” The US president made no mention of sanctions or the Kremlin’s war crimes.
The meeting effectively lifted Putin out of the international isolation he had been in since the invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was not invited to the summit. During the talks, Russia continued to shell Ukrainian cities.

Zelensky is going to meet with TACO on Monday. I think the reception will be far different to the grovelling reception given to putler.
Once a pathetic taco, always a pathetic taco.
