During a video conference with the acting head of the Kursk region, Alexey Smirnov, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that residents of the Kursk region who were forced to leave their homes due to the advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces would be paid 10,000 rubles each. This was reported by the Kremlin press service. 

Smirnov asked Putin to support the proposal to pay residents who were “forced to leave their homes in connection with these events” 10 thousand rubles per person.

“Many are in TRPs [temporary accommodation points] without even having taken their documents. Of course, we provide all the assistance we can, but this measure is also being proposed at the expense of the federal budget,” Smirnov said.

Putin said he had spoken with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin “very recently.” 

“We will assume that the decision on a one-time payment of 10 thousand rubles to citizens who need it has been made, and the necessary resources will be allocated. In addition, other damage will also need to be assessed. Please, together with colleagues from various departments, including the Ministry of Emergency Situations, this work will need to be done. This refers to the loss of property, housing. All of this will need to be done on a full scale,” Putin said. 

Ukrainian troops invaded Kursk Oblast on August 6, and fighting in border areas has been going on for the third day. Pro-war publics claim that the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to enter the border town of Sudzha. The Rybar Telegram channel, which is close to the Russian Defense Ministry, wrote that “there remain isolated pockets of resistance” in the city, mainly local residents, “but the city itself is almost completely under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.” In turn, the Russian Defense Ministry claims that the armed forces and the FSB “continue to destroy” armed formations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Sudzhansky and Korenevsky districts of Kursk Oblast.
