putin Just SEIZED russia’s Pension Funds (video commentary)

08/10/2026

Russia’s war in Ukraine is now colliding with a financial breakdown Vladimir Putin can no longer contain. Russia’s emergency reserves are being burned through, major companies are missing loan payments, and Putin’s own banking system is admitting the scale of the crisis as Moscow pours money into keeping it alive. Factories are struggling to secure steel, parts, fuel and wages while the Russian war machine consumes resources faster than the country can replace them.

With banks under growing pressure, Putin is reaching deeper into Russia to keep the war financed. Pension funds are being pulled into government war debt while Russians withdraw record amounts of cash and investors dump Russian bonds. The same banks Moscow is rescuing are also expected to finance the Kremlin, leaving the government, banks, businesses and Russian families trapped inside the same spreading insolvency.

Ukraine is hitting Russia at the worst possible moment, striking factories, refineries, railways and logistics while Moscow loses the money and industrial capacity needed to repair the damage. Jason Smart follows how collapsing finances become shortages, how shortages reach military production, and why every new Ukrainian strike becomes harder for Russia to recover from. Putin is burning through the reserves, pensions and productive capacity his war still depends on.
