Russia state-television host Vladimir Solovyov, a vocal ally of the Kremlin, praised Russia and North Korea’s new strategic partnership on the air and warned that “thanks to our technologies, the territory of the United States is under threat.”
Solovyov, called a propagandist who previously had been under international sanctions, made the comments on Russia’s Channel-1. A video of his comments was posted on Thursday by Russian Media Monitor, a watchdog group founded by journalist Julia Davis.
“This new level of relations between Russia and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, is a direct threat, not only to Japan and South Korea, but also to the territory of the United States,” Solovyov said.
Tensions are rising between the neighboring South and North Korea, and on Friday, South Korea summoned the Russian ambassador to protest the Kremlin’s new defense pact with Pyongyang. There are reportedly vague threats from North Korea seeking retaliation over South Korean activists flying thousands of anti-North Korea leaflets across the shared border.
On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a treaty pledging mutual military assistance in the event of an attack. According to the treaty text published by North Korean state media, the pact says that in an event of an invasion of Russia or North Korea, the other party “shall provide military and other assistance with all means in its possession without delay.”
Solovyov, who has supported Putin’s war in Ukraine, said on television: “In the event of aggression, countries may come to each other’s aid—let me remind you, we’re currently facing aggression. Let me remind you that military actions are taking place on our constitutional territories in the regions of Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk and partially, Luhansk.” Solovyov’s comments are controversial as those cities are in Ukraine.
The U.S. is a close ally of Ukraine and has condemned the invasion, believing it’s an attack on Ukrainian sovereignty. Since Putin started the war on February 24, 2022, Congress has passed five bills totaling $175 billion in aid to Kiev, according to the Council on Foreign Relations. Much of the aid is for military support—weapons, training and intelligence. Last summer, the U.S. and NATO allies agreed to send Ukraine U.S.-made F-16s, which are expected to be in use soon.
“If I understand it correctly, thanks to our technologies, the territory of the United States is under threat,” Solovyov said.
According to a 2024 report by the Federation of American Scientists, Russia has the world’s largest inventory of nuclear warheads, estimated at roughly 5,580, and North Korea is estimated to have about 50 nuclear weapons.
“This is an epic defeat of America’s political elite,” he said of the pact, and then urged China “to join the family of nations that is fighting against colonialism.”
In a phone interview with Newsweek, Edward Verona, nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center, emphasized skepticism toward Russian public media for reliable analysis.
“You can’t rely on what you’re hearing on Russia public media for any sort of serious analysis,” Verona said. “Anything that gets covered by Russian TV has to be seen from the perspective that they are talking to a domestic audience, which does not have access by and large [unless they have access to VPN] to outside information. It’s used to bolster domestic support.”
Newsweek reached out to the Russian government’s press service and the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense for comment via email on Friday.

The russia might be a terrorist, but they will never attack the United States. They can’t even defeat Ukraine, thus, starting a conflict with the world’s most powerful military is the very last thing they wish to do. Despite the number of nukes they claim to have, we know that ours will work and the rockets that carry them, too. So, clowns like Solovyov are tasked to spread fear through threats and propaganda. But any threats from mafia land ring very hollow when you are aware of the facts given above. They might only scare little girls, babushkas, and people of low intellect.
This attitude, this strategy which consisted of ignoring all the threats of the Nazi propaganda from the Kremlin, like the drop of water on the duck’s feather, played an interesting role for a time. Today, continuing to fail to respond to threats has become counterproductive and dangerous.
In addition to verbal threats, terrorist acts are now daily occurrences even in European and NATO countries. And we don’t react except by summoning ambassadors. We could not better encourage them to continue attacking the free world and to be uninhibited on the Ukrainian front.
Risk and fear must also begin to fuel the thoughts of the Russian population and these elites regarding their own survival.
The time to do this is entirely appropriate for me since the Kremlin dwarf has just shown his ultimate card announcing that it is better for the state to perish if it fails to win (“For Russia, the strategic defeat means the end of its statehood and thousand-year history. Then the question arises – why should we be afraid? Isn’t it better to go to the end?” Dixit Putin).
We have to increase the pressure. We all know Putin’s paranoid nature in the face of death and we don’t talk about the mafia oligarchy constituting the close circle which is undoubtedly not ready to go to the fire with the crazy who runs the Kremlin.
A radioactive tidal wave on the United Kingdom? Exert the same psychological pressure every day on St. Petersburg and Moscow, the heart of the Nazi power of the Kremlin!
A sad fact is that we do not have the right kind of statesmen in the West to change the strategy with mafia land and to up the pressure appropriately on the shithole. They commit subversive acts continuously and massively, they meddle in elections, they violate Western airspace and coastal boundaries, make nuclear threats like they are on a conveyor belt, and so on and so forth, yet the strongest response we get is, as you say, an ambassador being summoned. For the cockroaches, this is just like a green light for committing more aggression.
You’re right. This is all the more true since the language of force, not necessarily the one that is exercised, but above all the one that shows its power, is the language, the only one that Moscow understands.
I wonder if we really understand this casual, violent and terrorist nature of the Nazis in the Kremlin and elsewhere… This worries me a lot, because some believe that traditional diplomatic channels can still be used with these barbarians. They do not care!
Indeed, there still are people who think that diplomacy can still work. They completely ignore the past history of mafia land … how it pissed on every agreement and international law. Call it stupidity, idiocy, or whatever. Fact is, such people are a danger to us all.
“This is an epic defeat of America’s political elite,” he said of the pact, and then urged China “to join the family of nations that is fighting against colonialism.”
Colonialism:
“the policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically.”
More Moskali hypocrisy……..we need to retake Kaliningrad, Transnistria, South Ossetia, Abkhazia, the Kurils and Ukraine.
Right, Red. As Nazis, the muscovy gangsters strictly go by the rules of Goebbels, hypocrisy being an important one.
