American political scientist Oleksandra Filipenko shared her opinion on how the US attitude towards Russia and China has changed in the context of global politics. She is convinced that even before the publication of the Yale University analysis, which draws attention to Russia’s losing position, it was possible to predict that
Donald Trump and his administration no longer consider Russia an equal rival.
Filipenko told this in a comment to OBOZ.UA. According to her, despite the large number of nuclear weapons, Russia is no longer a main partner in strategic negotiations.
“Even before the publication by Yale University, before the publication by this think tank, one could say that Donald Trump and the American administration in general do not consider Russia an equal rival,” the expert explained.
This was illustrated by a recent incident when Putin congratulated Trump on his political achievements, saying that Russia and the United States should “negotiate as equals, discuss issues of strategic stability, including nuclear weapons.” In response, Trump, while signing executive orders, questioned Russia’s economic course, saying that “Vladimir Putin is destroying the Russian economy.”
Filipenko emphasizes that Trump did not even mention the issue of strategic stability or nuclear weapons, which confirms his view of Russia as an economically weak state.
“For Donald Trump, this is not a sign that Russia is an equal partner. For Donald Trump, the sign is exclusively financial power, economic power. That’s what’s important to Trump. And I assume that he hasn’t seen Russia in a winning position in this sense for a very long time. And so, of course, now, it seems to me, he rather sees Russia in a losing position,” she said.
Regarding China, Filipenko emphasizes that the US does not need to specifically set Beijing against Moscow.
“There’s no need to even adjust here. It’s important to offer China something that will be beneficial and counter to Russia,” she says.
One such example is China’s growing concern about North Korean troops’ involvement in the war in Ukraine. China does not support this involvement, and the United States, in turn, does not want to see the North Koreans on Russia’s side either.
Filipenko added that diplomacy is developing precisely around such points of contact. In particular, the US has begun to more actively raise the issue of China’s nuclear status, which is a significant change in political discourse.
“I would draw attention to the fact that China’s nuclear status was not spoken loudly by American politicians. And suddenly, in his first interview after being appointed Secretary of State, Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke about it,” she noted.
This, she said, could mean that China could be drawn into trilateral talks between the US, Russia and China on strategic stability and nuclear weapons. It could also be a major blow to Putin, who has always preferred direct talks with the American leader, without the involvement of a third party.
As a reminder, US President Donald Trump said he will speak with Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin about the Russia-Ukraine war. He hopes to “do something significant” to end it.
Earlier, the Institute for the Study of War stated that Putin continues to try to force Donald Trump into bilateral talks about the war that exclude Ukraine. He also wants to impose on him the framework of such a dialogue that the Kremlin wants.
As OBOZ.UA previously wrote, the British publication The Times expressed the opinion that Trump will not be able to provide such conditions of peace that would satisfy the Russian dictator. Because Putin started the war in order to “make Ukraine a friendly state.”

“She is convinced that even before the publication of the Yale University analysis, which draws attention to Russia’s losing position, it was possible to predict that Donald Trump and his administration no longer consider Russia an equal rival.”
Mafia land is a giant gas station pretending to be a nation, the great John McCain once famously said. It’s changed since then. Mafia land is a crime syndicate pretending to be a country. That place is not a superpower, it’s a Third-world shithole. If anyone doesn’t believe it, go for a visit across the country and see for yourself.
Since when was mafia land ever considered an equal to the US? Not even the USSR was considered an equal to the US. The dwarf is almost begging for a meeting with Trump to keep Ukraine out of any decisions. I would like Trump to publicly state that any decisions rest with Ukraine, not mafia land.
You will probably have to wait for a very long time for the orange man child to say something like this. When our sun turns into a red giant.
It is all he needs to say. It would pop putler’s dreams of a Yalta 2.0 immediately.
Unfortunately, we don’t have presidents anymore that say the right things. Their brains are not capable of formulating such things.
Watching Gabbard squirming yesterday was an embarrassment to the US. I have more qualifications to be the intelligence director than she has.
Yes, that’s true. Even my dog has more qualifications, than her. 🐶
Mine too, and she’s Ukrainian. 😂
😎👍
There may be a phone call or meeting between Trump and Vladolf but any negotiations will happen between Vladolf and Zelensky and Kalas, Trump and Xi will just watch. This would basically put 4 against Vladolf so that’s why he won’t meet as a group. That, in turn, would extend Vladolf’s war and infuriate Trump, which in turn should end up opening the new US Lend/Lease for Ukraine and at the expense, largely, of the EU, which they’ve agreed to. Vladolf loses either way.
Slava Ukraini~~!!
That would be good, but we’ll have to see about that.
