The Russian occupation army has increased pressure on Ukrainian positions. The enemy has chosen six points on the front line where it is concentrating its efforts. The head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, personally monitors the actions of his troops in Ukraine every day and demands more and more successes. The losses of the enemy troops are colossal; in two months the enemy is losing an army. In such a situation, even the huge reserves of the Russian Federation are being exhausted.
The enemy has also begun to attack military airfields that it believes could house F-16 fighters. But it uses old Soviet maps and has limited ability to update information. At the same time, new sites, control systems and infrastructure are being created to receive F-16s, some of which will be located in European countries. And to further mislead the enemy, fake launches are being staged and mock-ups of aircraft are being used.
The head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine in 2005–2010, General of the Army Nikolai Malomuzh, spoke about this in an exclusive interview with OBOZ.UA.
– The enemy attacked the airbase in Starokostiantyniv in the Khmelnytsky region, and earlier – the airfield in Myrgorod in Poltava region. Both could theoretically accept F -16 fighters. Do you think that the enemy is trying to disrupt the supply of F -16s to Ukraine? Can it really succeed?
– The Russian Federation is trying to destroy those base segments that are ready to receive F-16s, as well as other missile systems. The target is infrastructure, communication systems, runways. After all, in order to create conditions for using F-16s, not only runways must be created, but also control systems, and, accordingly, a technical base is needed that will service the aircraft. All this is prepared in advance.
But the enemy is using old maps that have remained since the Soviet Union and which intelligence is trying to update. For example, structures created specifically for the F-16. In particular, we are talking about those cities that you named. At the moment, we are conducting encryption measures, and also disorienting the enemy, for example, by placing mock-ups of airplanes. And, judging by the fact that they are hitting individual points, I think they have no prospects.
New deployment fields, new control systems and their protection are being created to accept the F-16. They will be located in storage facilities where the enemy’s tactical missiles will not be able to reach them. Of course, there will be the necessary air defense, and enemy disorientation devices will be used.
– Do you allow for the possibility that some of the F -16 bases will be located abroad, for example, in Poland? Could jump-off airfields be organized there?
– Yes, jump-off airfields can be deployed in neighboring countries, which will supply ammunition, spare parts, where maintenance, repair and training of personnel will be organized. Of course, Russia will try to blame these countries, but this is not direct participation in the war.
This is one of the ways to preserve some of the property, equipment and ammunition. These F-16s will be on the territory of Ukraine for a short period of time – only during the period of direct combat use.
– A question about the current situation at the front. According to Deep State , in recent days the Russian occupation army has advanced in seven settlements at once. These are Progress, Vladimirovka, Karlovka, Krasnogorovka, New York, Makeyevka, and in Chasovy Yar the enemy has occupied the Kanal microdistrict. Where did the enemy get such colossal resources? Can they be stopped?
– The enemy has identified six tactical points where it is conducting attacks. These include Chasov Yar, Pokrovskoe, Toretskoe, and the Kharkov direction. The enemy is diverting attention from one section of the front to another. For example, it is transferring forces from the Kharkov direction to Donetsk, and when it sees that we are knocking it out in Volchansk, it begins to transfer forces back there.
But the enemy does not have a large contingent to significantly strengthen the front, the length of which is 1,600 kilometers. Those six points are the areas where the enemy is trying to break through. For what? Putin sets tough tasks for his army for the negotiation process. He manipulates and tries to force us and the allies to enter into peace talks, but against the backdrop of his victories. In fact, everything is at stake.
Putin personally monitors the progress in Donbass, Kharkiv region and Zaporozhye on a daily basis and demands more and more successes. Hence the brutal attacks, attempts to capture at least several settlements.
Putin is killing 1,200-1,700 people daily. These are huge losses. In two months, this is an entire army. Even for Russia, this is colossal. Of course, they have reserves, but at this rate they are quickly exhausted. Therefore, Putin is in a hurry to conquer something, to declare that he has an advantage somewhere and sets conditions for us and the West. Strike fire groups are deployed to de facto destroy populated areas. They practically remain only on the map.
Yes, on our side there is a conditional retreat, but this is more of a maneuver in order to create more advantageous positions for striking at the moment of retreat.
As for Chasovy Yar, the situation there is really difficult. I am talking to commanders, including King Danil’s brigade. There are the heaviest battles there, because the enemy does not have many combat-ready units there – all the effective units have already been destroyed.
Yes, Russia is currently actively mobilizing new resources, but they will only be able to hold the front. They will only be able to actively attack as “cannon fodder”. Therefore, in key points, the enemy is using special forces – airborne forces, airborne assault troops, marines, special forces of the GRU and other Russian departments, as well as “Storm-Z”, which are simply thrown into the slaughter. They are the ones who are now breaking through the directions, trying to put a lot of forces here, but with the support of a large number of drones, artillery, rocket and mortar systems.
I would also like to emphasize that, despite the information about the occupation of populated areas, which is displayed on the maps of military operations, the real situation at the front is variable. For example, somewhere we are retreating and counterattacking advantageously, somewhere we are destroying the enemy. Reserves are now being actively used to hold positions and deliver counterattacks. A complex military operation is underway in different places. Therefore, we cannot talk about a systematic retreat – there are movements, there are maneuvers, and this must be taken into account.
– How does Putin plan to use the elections, of which there are indeed many in Western countries this year?
– Russia has started deep negotiations on all fronts – in European countries, in the US, and in third countries. Putin is trying to work with a number of Western countries – Hungary, Slovakia and others, so that they begin to doubt the need to support Ukraine. The right is coming to power in France, and they may not be supporters of this process. Putin believes that if Trump comes to power in the US, he will support him.
Thus, Putin is counting on changes in Ukraine’s partner countries, so that the priority will not be military aid, but peace processes that Russia will direct. In particular, this concerns a number of conditions – Ukraine’s non-participation in NATO, the transfer of part of the occupied territories to Russia, including Crimea, as well as measures to “demilitarize” Ukraine – establishing quotas on the number of troops, weapons, missiles, aircraft, and so on.
