Moscow formed its delegation for the negotiations only after the United States did so.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is trying to streamline his delegation at the talks with the United States in order to extract as many concessions as possible from Washington, according to a new report by analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

It is noted that the Russian delegation at the talks included people who, in Putin’s opinion, are most effective in communicating with specific individuals from the US. According to analysts, this is how the head of the Russian Federation wants to achieve the most advantageous deal with US President Donald Trump.

ISW recalled that the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, stated that Putin would appoint a negotiator for dialogue with the United States only after Washington appoints its own negotiator.

Analysts emphasized that Russian media wrote that the US was the first to form a delegation for bilateral negotiations in Saudi Arabia, after which Moscow selected the most suitable candidates for its negotiating delegation.

According to Russian media, the Kremlin wants to restore access to the frozen reserves of the Russian Central Bank in the United States in the amount of about 6 billion dollars. Moscow also insisted during the negotiations that both countries resume the work of their diplomatic missions.

ISW believes that Putin is trying to push the United States to accept economic and diplomatic conditions that are not related to the war in Ukraine, likely in exchange for concessions from Ukraine and the West that are related to the fighting. If the United States does this, the analysts are confident that Washington will have the leverage it needs to achieve Trump’s stated goal of achieving peace in Ukraine.
