Beijing announced a meeting with Putin, but bypassed the topic of Ukraine.

China has officially confirmed Vladimir Putin’s upcoming visit to Beijing and revealed the main topics of the upcoming talks. However, the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s statement did not directly mention the war in Ukraine. This was reported by the Global Times , citing a representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo Jiakun.

According to him, the Russian leader’s visit will be Putin’s 25th trip to China. During the meeting, the parties intend to discuss bilateral relations, cooperation in various fields, as well as international and regional issues of “common interest” for Moscow and Beijing.

At the same time, the Chinese side did not specify whether the topic of the war in Ukraine would be raised separately, despite the Kremlin’s expectations and international attention to the negotiations.

The visit is being given great importance in Moscow. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called Russia-China relations “a particularly privileged and strategic partnership” and stressed that the Russian side has “very serious expectations” for the trip.

Peskov said, as reported by Reuters , that the Russian delegation would include ministers, deputy prime ministers and heads of major companies. He also confirmed that the parties could discuss economic projects, including the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline, which is to connect Russian Arctic fields with China through Mongolia.
