Putin and Xi Jinping made a mocking statement about Ukraine

Russia and China are demanding that the “root causes” of the war in Ukraine be eliminated, according to a joint statement signed by Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping.

“Russia and China support all efforts to establish peace in Ukraine. Moscow and Beijing are convinced that for a long-term settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, it is necessary to eliminate its root causes,” the Russian news agency RIA Novosti quotes the document.

At the same time, the parties are silent about the fact that the war in Ukraine began on the initiative of the Russian side, violating all international rules and interstate obligations of Russia itself.

The two dictators also stated that states should not ensure their own security “at the expense and to the detriment of the security of other countries.”

As is consistent with the Russian “SVO” on the territory of Ukraine, Putin and Xi were once again silent.

Russian-Chinese alliance

As UNIAN wrote, some observers see Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow as a way to show that a new alliance of autocracies has been formed . This is a show of strength against the backdrop of the collapse of Western unity.

At the same time, things are not as smooth between Moscow and Beijing as they try to make out. According to some reports, China is increasingly irritated by Russia’s rapprochement with North Korea .
