Vladimir Solovyov, a prominent Kremlin propagandist and staunch ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, indicated during a recent broadcast that he does not feel former President Donald Trump winning the 2024 election would benefit Russia.

Kremlin-controlled media outlets generally cover Trump more favorably than President Joe Biden, who has been one of Kyiv’s biggest supporters during the war launched by Putin. Trump has also been noted to have had a closer relationship with Putin than Biden does, and he courted controversy in 2022 by calling the Russian leader a “genius” during the early stages of the Ukraine war.

Solovyov, the host of political programs on Russian state television and radio, has been among the Russian broadcasters who have spoken positively of Trump. Among the public statements Solovyov has made about the former president was stating last year that “there are obviously shared values and common understanding” between Trump and Putin.

The propagandist has also advocated for Trump’s reelection in the past, but he sounded more doubtful during a recent program about Russia seeing gains from a second term for the Republican.

Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to Ukraine’s minister of internal affairs, on Thursday posted a translated clip on X, formerly Twitter, of Solovyov discussing what he thinks Trump winning in 2024 would mean for Russia.

“The United States is our enemy. And the last name of the president is not important, it’s a nuance,” Solovyov said.

“Let me remind you that after Trump came to power, he imposed even heavier sanctions than those who came before him. There are no fans of Russia and Putin there [in the United States],” he added, per Gerashchenko’s translation. “They perceive us as enemies. Right or wrong, this is no longer a geopolitical question. And we are not talking about the American people, but about the American political establishment.”

Solovyov then brought up Russia’s war in Ukraine, which Kremlin officials have at times claimed is an ideological war against the West.

“We are confronting the demons. That is why we are winning,” he said.

The U.S. State Department has detailed Solovyov’s efforts to spread disinformation from the Kremlin. In a list identifying well-known figures involved in Russian propaganda published on its website in 2022, the State Department described Solovyov as perhaps “the most energetic Kremlin propagandist around today.”

Throughout the course of the war, Solovyov has garnered international attention for making controversial statements, such as advocating multiple times for Moscow to make use of its nuclear capabilities against the countries that back Ukraine.

He has also said the Kremlin should unleash a nuclear strike on any country that would attempt to detain Putin over the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court in March over alleged war crimes.

  1. “Vladimir Solovyov, a prominent Kremlin propagandist and staunch ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, indicated during a recent broadcast that he does not feel former President Donald Trump winning the 2024 election would benefit Russia.”

Solovyov is a despicable, vile, stinking, evil creature, but why he’s having second thoughts about Trump does raise my eyebrows. Unfortunately, Newsweek doesn’t mention the specific reason why there is a more somber feeling about another Trump presidency. Was it because of, “Let me remind you that after Trump came to power, he imposed even heavier sanctions than those who came before him.”? It was known all along what Trump did and did not do, and this never hampered their enthusiasm for Trump. Why the sudden second thoughts?

    • Its true that Trump greatly increased sanctions against ruzzia. That is obviously not helping ruzzia nor is it the actions of a ruzzian agent.
Secondly, vastly increasing oil and gas production which are Poopin’s two major geopolitical tools for intimidation and control.
Third, Trump was the first US president to deliver strong weapons to Ukraine.
Fourth, to reinforce Sir Focus’ point, the US citizens couldn’t give a crap about ruzzia. If they want to endorse someone then it will have the opposite effect for that candidate….so…logically….they know that and their endorsement would be purely cynical. If they really wanted Trump to win, they would endorse Hillary.
      Guess what happened?
They endorsed Trump which gave votes to Hillary…yeah…the same Hillary with the stupid Reset button and the ruzzian propaganda known as the Steele dossier………….

      • When did they endorse Trump? It’s been well-proven that they worked behind the scenes to boost trumpkov and harm better-qualified candidates.

The Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee reaffirmed that Russian operatives engaged in a widespread social media campaign to improve his chances in the race.

A Russian troll farm central to the election campaign supported “Donald Trump at the direction of the Kremlin,” the committee said.

      • Greatly increased sanctions? Not really. The “sanctions from hell” never came, and he even lifted sanctions when a Russian aluminium plant was getting into problems.

Secondly, I doubt he really increased gas and oil production. I think this is not something a POTUS does. Gas production increased because of the scale gas industry that has been developing for years, already in the Obama era and maybe even before. Also there is no evidence he wanted to increase production to combat Russia.

Thirdly, this is the most silly argument I can think of. The Russians didn’t openly endorse Trump, yet they used internet trolls, hacks and other disinfo to pour dirt on Clinton and in support of Trump. There is no reason to suggest that “endorsing someone has the opposite effect”. Endorsing Trump did not give votes to Hillary, quite the opposite. Hacking her mailbox and spreading nonsense about her doesn’t really benefit Clinton at all.

The “reset button” you have mentioned so many times indeed didn’t look good, but it wasn’t quite her idea but rather Obama. She looked pretty uncomfortable with it, and the idea did not match what she usually said about Russia. At the very least she was the least pro-Russian candidate, even though she wasn’t quite John McCain.

        • The POTUS has some influence in the production of fossil fuel in the US through federal lease sales and other legislature that impact this industry. Fact is, that, currently, we’re producing a record amount of oil.

          • I am not saying he has 0 effect, but I think the main cause was high oil prices as a result of economic growth and OPEC cuts of which the Western oil industry wanted to benefit from.

I don’t think it mattered much whether there was an Obama, Clinton or Reagan in power.
BP and the likes are not going to sleep in their chairs when they see record prices for a barrel of oil.

Now the world economy is cooling off so likely oil production will decrease, regardless of policy.

    • “why he’s having second thoughts about Trump does raise my eyebrows”

Maybe he’s not having second thoughts at all. Maybe he’s been reading Sir RSM’s posts, and realizing that being so open about supporting trumpkov would backfire, so he’s pretending that the kremlin is *not* trying to harm Democrats and help trumpkov and other pro-putler republicans. (Even though the US spy agencies says that’s *exactly* what they’re doing.)

      • I was considering the same possibility … that they are doing this to achieve the opposite result. In the end, what really matters is what Trump plans to do regarding this war, not what the rats think.

  2. “They perceive us as enemies. Right or wrong, this is no longer a geopolitical question. And we are not talking about the American people, but about the American political establishment.”

The American people don’t give a toss about russia, why should they? They are not subjected to 24 hours of hatred against russians, spewing from the mouth of the likes of Solovyov. russia could dry up and blow away, it wouldn’t affect the lives of US citizens. Unlike russia, the US don’t need an enemy to keep their president in power, or to blame everyone, but themselves for any problems in US society.

    • But Repubs are subjected to 24/7 hatred of Ukraine via outlets like Breitbart, Gateway Pundit, Ivan Muskovy, Laura Ingraham/Rebekah Koffler (Fox), infowars, Michael Savage etc etc.
Plus the Dems house mag (NYT) runs a portion of negative stories about Ukraine, which seems to have increased lately.

      • There were a handful of cases – mostly committed by Republicans. (E.g., in January, a former elections official in upstate New York pleaded guilty to identity theft for a scheme in which he used voter information to request absentee ballots. A local Republican official in Ohio voted in two states, once in the name of his late father. A Pennsylvania Trump voter voted for himself and for his long-dead mother. An Alabama state legislator has been charged with voting in a district where he didn’t live. A North Carolina absentee ballot fraud scheme was so serious an election had to be invalidated.)

But there was no large-scale fraud – nothing that would have changed the results of the election. Trump’s Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency, a federal agency that oversees U.S. election security, said “The November 3rd election was the most secure in American history.” And Trumps’ own Attorney General said that the DOJ hadn’t uncovered widespread fraud that would change election results. So let’s not make up stuff that promotes Kremlin disinformation.

        • Indeed, there are always things that can go wrong during elections or when people are/try cheating. This happens in every election, so 2020 was nothing unusual.
