Protesters in Tbilisi attempted to occupy the presidential palace.

In Tbilisi, opposition protesters attempted to occupy the Orbeliani presidential palace. Some protesters entered the building’s courtyard, where the fence was effectively demolished.

Riot police attempted to defend the residence and displace protesters using pepper spray, tear gas, and a water cannon.

Security forces were apparently unprepared for the initial attempt to storm the building. Additional special forces were then mobilized on site.

Clashes between protesters and police erupted at the scene. There were injuries and arrests.

Earlier, the protest organizer, opera singer and opposition politician Paata Burchuladze, read a declaration voted on by the protesters at the rally on Freedom Square. It consists of three points:

  1. Power belongs to the Georgian people.
  2. The so-called government has lost its constitutional legitimacy and therefore its powers have been terminated.
  3. The National Assembly declares a peaceful transition period that will ensure the peaceful return of power to the people; the liberation of democratic institutions; the immediate resumption of dialogue on accession to the European Union; and the protection of security and peace in the country.

Then Murtaz Zodelava, a representative of the National Movement, declared: “Male power will take action today—we, the male power, will come out to Baratashvili’s side and demand the keys to the presidential palace. This will be the first step.”

Fifth President Salome Zurabishvili did not support the actions of some of the opposition: “This travesty of seizing the presidential palace could only be staged by the regime to discredit the 310-day peaceful protest of the Georgian people. As the legitimate president, I officially reject this and will continue to stand peacefully with my people until we secure new elections.”

  • Local government elections are taking place in Georgia today, and a number of major opposition forces, including former President Mikheil Saakashvili’s National Movement party, are boycotting them.

  1. It would be great for the Georgian people to free themselves from the pro-mafia scum, just like the Ukrainians did.

    • It is likely to be an overwhelming “victory” for Georgian nightmare. Most opposition are not participating.

  2. This is an extremely concerning situation. There is a municipal election taking place today. The outcome either way is very dangerous for the democratic opposition.
Should Ivanishvili’s thugs win, the putinaZi occupation by stealth continues.
Some democracy- minded voters may even decide to vote for “Georgian Nightmare” because they fear a win for the democratically minded parties.
Why? Because it gives putler an excuse for an invasion and takeover.
For that reason, a false flag by putler cannot be ruled out. Georgia has no reliable friends in the west that will help.
    Not one.
