Georgescu said the EU wants to “take control” of NATO before US President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated on January 20.

Romanian ultra-nationalist Calin Georgescu, known for his pro-Russian stance, who won the country’s annulled first round of presidential elections last year, claims the West wants to start a “third world war.” 

According to  Politico, Georgescu made provocative statements echoing Russian narratives about the EU and NATO in an interview with American conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, the host of a popular show with 3.6 million subscribers on Channel X.

Georgescu said the EU wants to “take control” of NATO before US President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated on January 20.

“When they control through [Secretary General Mark] Rutte, they try to impose their rules and push as much as possible towards a third world war in the region, in particular in Romania,” he said.

According to him, the “real door” for the start of “a third world war in Ukraine” is Romania. He added:

“Without Romania they won’t be able to control this war.”

Georgescu has denied accusations that he has ties to Moscow.

“Of course, I have nothing to do with Russia. I don’t know anyone, only a few people, scientists, for example, but I have nothing to do with politicians in Russia,” Georgescu said.

According to the politician, the “globalist elite”, to which he also refers the “financial and banking system” and “the initiatives of the World Economic Forum”, as well as the “oligarchs” and “real fascists”, are interested in expanding the war in Ukraine.
