“Today I brought you a special gift,” Andersson said.
In particular, she said that it was a copy of a letter from the Swedish National Archives, written in 1711 by King Charles XII in the city of Bender (Moldova).
According to her, this letter “was an instruction to the Swedish ambassador in Constantinople to work for the freedom of the Zaporozhian Sich as an independent state, so that the Ukrainian Cossacks should never again suffer from the repressions of the Russian Tsar.”
“Already in the 18th century, the Swedish king was struck by the local democratic self-government of the Ukrainian Cossacks,” Andersson stressed.
At the same time, Zelensky quoted part of this letter. “In order to quickly implement the article on the freedom of Ukraine and all Cossacks, so that all Ukraine and the Zaporizhian Army under the current commander Philip Orlyk return the ancient freedom of ownership of their land and its former borders, so that from now on this people will become an independent state and will never again be subject to obedience or protection of the king,” the president read a fragment of the document.
Earlier, Sweden expressed its readiness to impose a gas embargo against the Russian Federation.
