The country’s Central Election Commission reported that more than 50% of the total number of registered voters took part in the voting.

In Moldova, voting in the presidential elections and referendum on European integration ended at 21:00 local time.

The Central Election Commission of Moldova has processed over 50% of the ballots after the end of the presidential elections. Maia Sandu has gained over 35.6% of the votes. In second place is Alexandru Stoianoglo – he has over 29.29%, Renato Usatii has gained over 14%.

The commission also processed more than 45% of the ballots for the EU accession referendum. More than 43% of voters voted in favor, 56% against.

Voting was still ongoing at polling stations abroad, primarily in European countries where 9:00 p.m. has not yet arrived. These countries are home to large diasporas, and high voter turnout is reported.

The turnout in the country as a whole is currently 51.41%. Turnout is important for the referendum results: for it to be considered valid, at least a third of registered voters must participate.

Elections in Moldova

At the beginning of the month, numerous posters announcing a concert by the famous Ukrainian singer Anastasia Prikhodko were spotted on the streets of Moldova. The banners contained calls against European integration . It turned out that this was part of the Russian information war, but the artist was still involved in these posters. The posters were hung around the city as part of a Russian disinformation campaign ahead of the country’s presidential elections and referendum on its accession to the European Union.

The advertising banners featured Prikhodko herself, as well as the words “NU EC” in the colors of the Ukrainian flag. Translated, the phrase means “No in the EU.”
