Azerbaijan advises Ukrainians to reclaim territories occupied by Russia.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev drew parallels between the situation in Ukraine and the dispute with Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh. He recalled that Azerbaijanis had recaptured territories and advised Ukrainians to do the same. He said this while answering a question from Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon at the III Shushinsky Global Media Forum.

“I once had the opportunity to answer a question from a representative of Ukraine at one of the events a few years ago. The question was approximately the same. And my answer will not differ from what I said then. And I think that this is also in line with the hopes of the Ukrainian people: never to agree to occupation. This is the main advice. This is what we did,” said Ilham Aliyev.
He recalled that Azerbaijan managed to recapture Nagorno-Karabakh, which had been controlled by the Armenian army for a long time. He said that the UN Security Council had once adopted four resolutions according to which Armenia was to withdraw its troops from this territory. But none of them was implemented.
“We decided that we would create new realities and you would put up with them. And so it happened,” he said.

The President recalled that Azerbaijan regained control over Nagorno-Karabakh through military means. He wished Ukrainians not to give up and to do the same by retaking the territories occupied by Russia.
Aggravation of Azerbaijan’s relations with Russia
We will remind that after an Azerbaijani passenger plane was shot down over the territory of Chechnya during an air raid, relations between Moscow and Baku deteriorated significantly. Azerbaijan demands an impartial investigation and punishment of the guilty. Aliyev stated that the Chechen authorities did not close the airspace in time and blames them for the disaster .
Amid the worsening relations, Russia is increasing its military presence in Armenia . According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s General Directorate of Military Affairs, the Russian contingent at the military base in Gyumri has increased. The General Directorate also sees signs that Russia will try to destabilize the situation in the region.
