On January 23, powerful explosions were heard in Kursk and Ryazan, Moscow Region, Russia. Local residents say this is the most massive drone strike in recent months.

Meanwhile, Kremlin propagandists are actively reporting on the “work of air defense.” This is evidenced by posts in Russian Telegram channels.

According to Russian media, from 200 to 400 Ukrainian drones are simultaneously flying into Russian territory. This raid is being called one of the largest in recent times.

Meanwhile, Kursk residents report that the city is already “catching gifts ,” meaning precise UAV strikes.

Eyewitnesses claim that the sounds of explosions were heard in different areas of the city, and the sky over Kursk was illuminated by flashes from the work of air defense.

Although the official Russian authorities usually try to downplay the significance of the attack, the Russian Defense Ministry has already stated that air defense systems allegedly destroyed 49 Ukrainian drones since 7:00 p.m.

In particular, 37 UAVs were allegedly destroyed over the Kursk region, 7 over the Bryansk region, 4 over Crimea, and one over the Belgorod region.

Kursk Mayor Ihor Kutsak said that a Ukrainian UAV was shot down over Kursk. Four households were damaged by falling debris.

In addition, oil refineries in Ryazan are under attack. According to locals, sirens can be heard in the city, air defense systems are working, and explosions are heard.

Head of the Central Directorate of the National Security and Defense Council Andriy Kovalenko noted that there is an oil depot in the Ryazan region.

“The oil refinery is one of the key ones in the Russian oil industry, which, although under sanctions, is still operating. It is located in the Ryazan region and plays an important role in providing fuel to both the civilian and military-industrial complexes of Russia,” he noted.

This plant produces fuel for military equipment, aviation kerosene, diesel fuel, and other types of petroleum products used in tanks, airplanes, ships, and other equipment of the Russian Armed Forces.

A fire has been recorded near the Ryazan refinery. In particular, a cottage town and more are on fire.

Local residents report a fire near a thermal power plant and oil refinery in Ryazan after a UAV attack.

The governor of the Ryazan region said that the elimination of the consequences of the air attack continues.

In addition, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, reported that an attack by UAVs flying towards Moscow was allegedly repelled in the Moscow region.

It has become known that Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports are temporarily not accepting or sending flights.

It also became known about explosions in Bryansk.

The Kremniy El plant, which specializes in the production of electronics for the Russian military-industrial complex, was attacked in Bryansk.

As a reminder, on the night of January 21, Russia complained about
a UAV attack on Smolensk. Explosions were heard in the area where an aircraft factory is located.

As OBOZ.UA reported, a locomotive used to supply weapons, equipment, and ammunition to the Russian army was destroyed in St. Petersburg. The incident occurred on January 18, 2025 at the “Ruch’ya” tram depot.
