The Senate of Poland adopted a resolution recognizing the authorities of the Russian Federation as a terrorist regime.

This is reported by the Polish Press Agency.

All senators present voted for the resolution on recognizing the authorities of the Russian Federation as a terrorist regime.

In the resolution, the Senate recalls that “on February 24, 2022, the armed forces of the Russian Federation unleashed a brutal war with Ukraine,” the purpose of which is to “wipe the sovereign country off the map and destroy the Ukrainian nation.”

The resolution also calls on the international community to support the International Criminal Court in investigating those responsible for the crimes in Ukraine.

“The heroic defense of independence by the citizens of Ukraine has evoked the admiration of the entire free world. Ukraine today is the most important place that defends democracy and freedom. Russian invaders terrorize the inhabitants of Ukrainian cities by bombarding civilian facilities: kindergartens, schools, theaters and residential areas. Bandits in Russian uniforms torture and kill prisoners of war and civilians in the occupied territories. They kidnap Ukrainian children to raise them in the Janissary regime. They deport, resettle and send Ukrainian citizens to the far periphery of Russia,” the senators note in the resolution.

The document also emphasizes that “we are well aware of all these acts of state terrorism from the pages of history.” The senators recall that “Europeans believed that they would never be in danger of genocide and war crimes, and in the meantime, Vladimir Putin and his apparatus of violence returned to the cruel practices of the Stalinist and Nazi regimes.”

The Polish Senate emphasizes that Russia must be defeated and deprived of the opportunity to endanger its neighbors. They also call on other countries to recognize the government of the Russian Federation as a terrorist regime.

Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak reacted to the decision of the Polish Senate.

“Thank you to our allies,” he wrote.

Recognition of Russia as a terrorist country: key decisions

Earlier, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution in which it recognized the Russian regime as terrorist. In addition, for the first time in history, the Council of Europe stated that it is necessary to provide weapons to a certain country.

The United Nations General Assembly also adopted a resolution condemning Russia’s attempted annexation of territories in four regions of Ukraine.

Similar decisions have already been taken by the authorities of a number of countries. Thus,  the Seim of Lithuania recognized the Russian Federation as a terrorist state in May. And the Saeima of Latvia recognized the Russian Federation as a state supporting terrorism on August 11. On October 18, the Estonian parliament also approved a resolution condemning Russia’s attempt to annex the occupied Ukrainian territories and declaring the Russian regime a terrorist one.

Also in early October, bills were submitted to the US Congress to recognize the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism . However, a month earlier, US President Joe Biden said that his administration does not plan to include Russia in the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

  1. U.K. and U.S. need to follow suit immediately. Both countries should have already taken the lead and done this.
