In total, Poland has already spent 587 million euros on strengthening the border.

Poland plans to finish building a border wall and close the border with Belarus until next summer to stop the flow of migrants , which Warsaw calls Russia’s hybrid war. This was stated by Maciej Duszczyk, Deputy Minister for Migration of Poland, writes the Financial Times .

Additional work along the 400-kilometer eastern border is scheduled to be completed by mid-2025, he said. He added that once construction is complete, “security on the border will be as close to 100 percent as possible.”

The publication recalled that Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has put the fight against Russia’s “hybrid war” at the top of his agenda. In particular, Poland is installing night vision cameras and thermal imagers, building a new road to patrol the border, and strengthening the five-meter steel fence that the previous government built in 2022. According to Duszczyk, the country has spent 587 million euros on strengthening the border, half of which is being provided by Tusk’s government.

“This artificially created migration route will be closed next summer, I hope and believe in it,” he stressed.

In turn, the politician stressed that Warsaw must be prepared for another attempt by Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko to “escalate the conflict” and sabotage Poland’s reinforced border infrastructure.

In addition, Warsaw plans to build a new road to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad in the coming months, which will allow Polish troops to respond more quickly to possible security breaches, Duszczyk assured.
