Poland has suspended the transfer of MiG-29s to Ukraine because Kyiv did not share its UAV technologies

Poland has postponed the delivery of MiG-29 fighter jets due to a lack of drone technology exchange. Warsaw is awaiting Kyiv’s decision to finalize the deal.

Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk stated that Poland has suspended the transfer of MiG-29s to Ukraine because Kyiv has not shared its UAV technologies. This was reported by Rzeczpospolita, according to UNN

We have not transferred MiG fighters to Ukraine. We agreed with the Ukrainian side on the transfer of technologies. If this issue is resolved, the matter of the fighters will conclude successfully.”- Tomczyk said.

He added that a dialogue between Poland and Ukraine is ongoing.

The Poles clearly stated: given that we are developing our own drone capabilities, we would also like to be able to use these Ukrainian capabilities. Of course, we will transfer the equipment to Ukraine if this issue is resolved. Nothing has changed in this matter; the issue remains unresolved.” – Tomczyk added.

Addendum

Discussions regarding the transfer of MiG-29s to Ukraine have been ongoing since the beginning of the war. In December 2025, the Polish General Staff reported that the country is in negotiations with Ukraine regarding the transfer of MiG-29 aircraft that have reached their operational limit. In exchange for the aircraft, Poland seeks to obtain drone and missile technologies from Ukraine.

Additionally, Polish Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski stated that the Polish government would transfer up to 9 MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine to protect against the full-scale Russian invasion.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki stated that he was unaware of the transfer of Polish MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine. He suggested that a misunderstanding had occurred and plans to discuss the matter with the Minister of Defense.

    • They were never ever reliable. My father never trusted the Poles. Always told me of his interactions dating back to pre and post WW2
