At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Zelensky was pressured from all sides, threatened with occupation and advised to flee, he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has given details of an assassination attempt on him at the start of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. He spoke about this in an interview for the British publication The Guardian .

The head of state recalled the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the ultimatum of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, similar to the “Minsk agreements”, but even harsher.

As Zelensky said, Putin’s ultimatum required the Ukrainian government to commit a complete betrayal of Ukraine’s national interests. It spoke of so-called “denazification,” “demilitarization,” and abandonment of the army, so that pro-Russian people would start governing Ukraine, Ukraine would give up its territories to Russia, and so that the Russian language would become official.

According to the president, this is “a more radical format of the same treacherous Minsk that was once signed by the parties.” He said that messengers came to him, even from the deputy corps, who said that “tomorrow we will be occupied” and that we must flee.

“Many leaders called me and said that we had to leave… There was pressure from different sides. There were people who wanted to kill. And there were shots and the like. Some people died here – inside our Office. There were other people of ours who defended. There was a landing of troops and so on. All this happened. And in parallel with this, there were ultimatums. And they put pressure,” Zelensky emphasized.

At the same time, Ukrainian defenders were then able to push Russian occupation forces away from Kyiv and continue to put pressure on the invaders, and then the Russians began to make proposals to hold meetings. First, a meeting took place in Belarus, where the Russians, according to Zelensky, continued to insist on their ultimatum, but in a softened version. After that, there was a meeting in Istanbul, Turkey.

As the president said, Ukraine defended itself and did not comply with Russian ultimatums:

“There were several rotations, several approaches with their ultimatum. I never gave them the go-ahead for any ultimatums and this would never have happened.”

  1. As long as it was subhumans that died, then it’s ok. putler’s plans for a coup died in those first few days. His pure hatred of Ukraine is driving him no matter the cost to russia or its citizens. I just hope the allies don’t fall for any of the Kremlin BS, and deliver a crushing ultimatum to the genocidal dwarf.
