The Pentagon has signed a $500 million contract with Perennial Autonomy to develop and supply counter-drone systems for the U.S. military.
The deal was announced by the U.S. Department of Defense and signed through Joint Interagency Task Force 401, the agency responsible for coordinating anti-drone technology programs for the U.S. Armed Forces.
Under the agreement, the Pentagon plans to acquire AI-powered drone interceptors, including Merops interceptor drones, Bumblebee quadcopters, and Hornet medium-range attack drones currently used by forces under United States Central Command.

The contract includes the development and integration of Counter-UAS technologies to protect military bases, critical infrastructure, and U.S. military units.
As part of the program, the U.S. military plans to use systems for automatic drone detection, airspace monitoring and analysis, and autonomous response to aerial threats.
Artificial intelligence algorithms will play a major role in the project, enabling systems to quickly classify targets and coordinate interceptor operations. Pentagon officials say the war in Ukraine has significantly changed the U.S. approach to unmanned systems.
The widespread use of FPV drones, strike UAVs, and swarm attacks has pushed the U.S. military to accelerate the procurement of counter-drone technologies.

It is worth noting that Perennial Autonomy has already tested some of its solutions based on lessons learned from modern conflicts, including the war in Ukraine.
One of its systems, the Merops AS-3 Surveyor, has reportedly proven effective in intercepting Russian drones. According to Twentyfour Industries, Merops systems have already helped destroy more than 4,000 Russian drones in Ukraine.
Militarnyi previously reported that production of Merops interceptor systems will begin in Germany.
Mass production of the systems will become possible thanks to an agreement between the American company Perennial Autonomy, which develops the Merops system, and the Munich-based company Twentyfour Industries, which also specializes in drone production.

Ukraine’s arms industry is flourishing. It would be of great help if Europe would finally surrender its stupidity and send back all adult Ukrainian males to the country, who are badly needed for its industry.
Negative. Better NATO ramps up lethal arms supplies to save Ukrainian lives to begin with!
Actually, it should all the above.
Might have been a good idea to purchase these counter drone systems before attacking Iran.
The Taco administration is far too stupid and incompetent to draw up a proper plan. The orange moron thought he could kick down the door like John Wayne and be done with it.
Ukraine should have insisted on a vote to support them joining NATO first. Its inevitable but this might have sped it up.
