The US Army is facing a budget deficit of at least $2 billion due to expanding operations.

The Pentagon has abruptly canceled the deployment of an armored brigade to Poland, a major step toward President Donald Trump’s plan to reduce the US presence in Europe.

According to Defense News , the U.S. Army has canceled the deployment of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division – more than 4,000 soldiers and associated equipment – to Poland.

In particular, on Wednesday, an Army official confirmed the decision, but did not provide details and referred all questions to the Pentagon.

During congressional hearings Tuesday on the Army’s budget status, neither Army Secretary Dan Driscoll nor Gen. Christopher LaNev, the Army’s deputy chief of staff, mentioned the cancellation of the deployment.

Sen. Jack Reed, a Rhode Island Democrat and the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said in opening remarks at the hearing that the military faces a budget shortfall of at least $2 billion as a result of expanded operations that include the deployment of the National Guard in Washington and Army units to control the U.S. border.
