The US Department of Defense has launched a criminal investigation into the potential leak of a classified report from its Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). The report states that US strikes have not caused a significant setback to Iran’s nuclear program.
Politico writes about this , citing the words of Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, Censor.NET reports .
“We are investigating the leak jointly with the FBI, as this information was intended for internal use and assessment of combat casualties,” he explained at the NATO summit in The Hague on June 25.
Hegseth also said that media reports based on this data are intended to “distort the situation to make the president look bad, even though it was an undisputed victory.”
The publication notes that the US Secretary of Defense did not provide details of the investigation, but added that the conclusions of the DIA analysis have a “low level of confidence.”
The Pentagon chief’s comments came after US President Donald Trump and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the media reports fake.
Hegseth believes the damage to Iranian nuclear facilities is “moderate to severe.”
“We believe that, most likely, [the damage] is serious – up to complete destruction,” he added.
Recall, CNN previously reported that, according to US intelligence, strikes on Iran did not destroy its nuclear program.
