The US does not plan to send its troops to defend Ukraine, but it is time for Europe to take responsibility for its own security, a representative of Trump’s team said.

Ukraine should not hope that as a result of peace talks it will be able to return the “2014 borders”. It should also not count on NATO membership. This was stated by the new US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth at a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense in Brussels (the “Ramstein” format), as quoted by Bloomberg .

According to him, the United States is committed to the idea of Ukraine’s sovereignty, but its membership in NATO is not realistic.

“The pursuit of this illusory goal will only prolong the war and cause more suffering,” he said.

Hegseth also believes that Ukraine’s return to the “2014 borders,” that is, before the Russian invasion of Crimea and Donbass, is unrealistic.

Speaking about security guarantees for Kyiv, the head of the Pentagon ruled out the possibility of sending US troops to Ukraine and stressed that it is Europe that needs to “enter the arena” and take responsibility for the security of the continent.

  1. Hegseth is basically saying international laws are dead, and meaningless. No country from now on will be regarded has having sovereign territory if Ukraine are thrown under the bus.

  2. To do anything less than restore Ukraine’s 2014 borders is a defeat for the West, and an insult to the sacrifices made by the Ukrainian side.

  3. Speaking of terribly unqualified people – Tulsi Gabbardova was confirmed by the US Senate as the next Director of National Intelligence.
