Disbelief in the coronavirus pandemic is just as deadly as disbelief in God, says Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. According to TASS, he stated this in a sermon on January 6 after the liturgy at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow.
I know that there are people who do not believe in anything – they do not believe in illness or danger, they neglect these medical prescriptions. But we, believers, know that not only these people are stupid – and that is how they can be called – exist in the world, but there are many people who do not believe in God. <…> It is very dangerous when people do not believe in God, it is deadly. It is just as dangerous today if people do not believe in the spread of infection and do not protect themselves from this infection.
The patriarch urged not to neglect “the requirements and prescriptions that modern medicine makes to each of us, to the entire human race.” In particular, he recommended observing sanitary standards and precautions when visiting temples.
Earlier, the Russian Orthodox Church reported that due to an unfavorable epidemic situation, the traditional Christmas service in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on the night of January 7 will be allowed only by invitation cards.
