The Embraer 190 passenger plane of Azerbaijan Airlines that crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan was shot down by a Russian air defense system, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council Andrey Kovalenko wrote .
He recalled that the plane was flying from Baku to Grozny.
“Russia should have closed the airspace over Grozny, but did not do so. The plane was damaged by the Russians and was sent to Kazakhstan instead of making an emergency landing in Grozny and saving people’s lives,” Kovalenko noted.

An Embraer E190AR aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) crashed on the morning of December 25 in the city of Aktau in western Kazakhstan. There were 67 people on board the plane, including citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
According to the latest data , 38 people died in the plane crash. 29 people, including two children, injured in the plane crash are in hospitals. 11 people are in stable serious condition, the rest are in moderate condition.
A black box was found at the scene of the accident and handed over to investigators. The commission investigating the disaster was headed by Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev.
The official cause of the plane crash has not yet been named, but traces similar to damage from air defense missiles are visible on the plane’s skin .
It was also reported that Azerbaijan Airlines suspended flights from Baku to Grozny and Makhachkala until the investigation into the crash is completed.
