The Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on Legal Affairs and Human Rights did not recognize the results of the presidential elections in Belarus and stated about the creation of the international investigative body for the collection of evidence of a violation of the human rights in the country as the PACE reported.
“The Committee refuses to recognize the result of the last presidential election. It demands that the election shall be repeated in a fair and transparent manner, under the supervision of international observers. The Committee considers that the perpetrators of the serious human rights violations in the context of the recent presidential elections and its aftermath must be held to account,” the message said.
Moreover, the PACE announced the creation of the international investigative body, which should collect information about crimes in the country after the elections.
“Both the Belarusian authorities and representatives of civil society shall be invited to cooperate in this investigation, whose results will be published and made available to any national or international law enforcement bodies willing and able to prosecute massive human rights violations committed in Belarus,” the committee said.
On August 9, the clashes of the protesters with the law enforcers started in Minsk. The law enforcers used stun grenades and water cannons against the protesters. Later, it was reported that a man died during the protests. A young man received a fatal head injury. On August 10, protests against the results of the presidential elections were resumed in the Republic of Belarus, a flash-noise grenade exploded in the center of Minsk; journalists talked about three volleys at the intersection of Kalvariyskaya Street and Masherov Avenue.
On August 14, the Central Election Commission of Belarus announced the final results of the election. According to the commission, incumbent President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko won the election.
