Kherson resident Olga Chernyshova posted on FB:
“Today’s walk with my friends after work ended in a shelter. Everything happened in an instant: a russian drone, a whistle, we run, an explosion.
We are alive. But the car near the entrance to the ATB supermarket burned to the ground. You look at the wreckage and realize how thin the line really is…
But what struck me most was something else. Everyone who passed by kept asking the same thing: “What about the grandmother? Where is the elderly woman who sold flowers here?”
This shared concern for someone who is a stranger, yet so important to the neighborhood — that means our Kherson.
The elderly lady was taken away by ambulance. She has a concussion and severe shock. Her son was supposed to arrive today — he’s already on his way — and now his mother is in the hospital…
But even in that state, she was thinking about something beautiful. She asked: “Take the flowers… Give them over to the girls so they don’t go to waste. It would be a pity if they just wither — I would be upset.”
We fulfilled her request. We gave the saved flowers to the girls at the ATB checkout, so they could bring a bit of joy to them and to the customers.
While the first responders were extinguishing the car, another drone struck — this time hitting an apartment.”
In the replies to that post, people recall buying flowers from that lady on the same day, and wishing her speedy recovery. Our people deserve none of what russian occupiers have brought onto us.

I feel so helpless every time I read a post about Kherson — how can we help our people there? How do we protect them from the enemy drones? Electronic warfare, drone detectors?

“You won’t be going home anyway — you have stage four cancer”, the russian prison chief told marine, POW Vladyslav Sambur. In reality, it was tuberculosis, not cancer — but treatment only began after a Moscow oncologist pointed out the mistake.
Without proper medical examinations or treatment — but with regular beatings, malnutrition, and the absence of basic sanitary conditions — Vladyslav spent nearly 3yrs in russian prisons.
In Jan 2025, he was released as part of a repatriation of severely ill prisoners. A year after returning home, Sambur is still undergoing treatment.

This once again makes me think of the ineffectual role of the International Committee of the Red Cross – ICRC . They have insisted repeatedly that they require neutrality (and handshakes/meetings with the Kremlin) to be able to have access to Ukrainian POWs. Well ? Years have passed and do they have this access ? Apparently , not. So what we see is that a critical institution of international humanitarian law is not carrying out its mandate .

So Tisza secures a constitutional majority — giving it a real chance to dismantle the system of state capture built by Orban for 16yrs. Magyar has already called on Orban’s protégés in key positions to step down.
For me, particularly uplifting were the videos of young people chanting “Ruszkik haza!” Hungary, good luck!
For us, there is still a long way to go. I don’t expect a miraculous breakthrough in Hungary–Ukraine relations. But in his effort to rebuild ties with Europe, I expect Magyar to move quickly to unblock the €90B Ukraine Support Loan that is badly needed now.
Ukraine’s EU integration — taken hostage as a gesture of servitude to the Kremlin as the leaks had revealed — must also be restored.
At the same time, in a wider sense, even if one of the Kremlin’s key enablers is gone, Moscow will not be disoriented for long. It will look for new “hardcore veto players”, even though I doubt Fico or others are fully there yet.
This gives the EU a narrow window — before the 2027 French elections — to fortify itself, protect its decision-making, and finally move forward on key issues such as the transfer of frozen russian assets out of Euroclear.
And while some mature democracies are slipping back, in other countries like Romania, Moldova and now Hungary people succeeded to defend their choice. This gives hope that so many of us still aren’t taking democracy for granted.

Great victory for Democracy 🇭🇺 and for Europe 🇪🇺 ! Yet , the candidate for Hungarian PM , Peter Magyar , has a *tough* job ahead of him , because the 16 year long Orban-regime has rigged Hungary 🇭🇺 with its slavish cronies in :
1) the court system, from high court to local ones
2) the Presidency of the Republic with large veto-powers
3) all commercial media and the press.
You don’t need a crystal ball to anticipate that those 3 Orban leftovers will during the coming 4 years do EVERYTHING in their power to sabotage the new Magyar government and its initiatives to rid Hungary 🇭🇺 of the corrupt Orban-system and corrosive Ruzzian influence, greased with corrupt Roubles.
So, Hungary 🇭🇺 needs all the help it can get from fellow EU members 🇩🇪🇫🇷🇦🇹🇧🇪🇳🇱and from Brussels 🇪🇺 to be successful in its stressful “de-Orbanization” (German : Entorbanifizierung) the coming years !
