The Prime Minister of Hungary delivered another resonant speech on the anniversary of the 1848 revolution.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán sought to mobilize support from the electorate during a celebratory speech on Friday to mark the 1848 Hungarian revolution against Habsburg rule. This is reported by AP.
In particular, Orban called on those present to help him “occupy Brussels” in the European Parliament elections this summer. He also repeatedly criticized the European Union and compared it to “imperial occupiers who have dominated Hungary throughout history.” At the same time, according to the politician, the Western world, unlike Hungary, is a source of “rootlessness and destruction”.
“Brussels is not the first empire that has set its eyes on Hungary. The peoples of Europe today fear that Brussels will take away their freedom. … If we want to preserve the freedom and sovereignty of Hungary, we have no choice: we must occupy Brussels,” Orbán said. .
As the publication notes, he also condemned immigration and the protection of LGBTQ+ rights, as well as expressed commitment to national pride and sovereignty – relevant theses “largely appeared in his comments on the national holiday, which often carried the tone of a campaign speech.”
