Only Zelensky can say this out loud: Ukraine is working on a secret missile program

August 4, 2025

Against the backdrop of Trump’s constantly changing position on Russia and Ukraine, Kyiv has decided to look for more reliable sources of arms supplies to the front lines.

For this purpose, Ukraine is developing its arms industry in conditions of maximum secrecy, reports  The Independent.

Kyiv’s priority is to have its own long-range missile that will not be inferior to Russia’s cruise or ballistic missiles.

Last week, the Kremlin attacked Pavlograd, where there were missile factories back in Soviet times. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that the plant that produced both drones and missile components was hit.

Ukraine is already actively using the Neptun, Peklo, Ruta and Palyanitsa missile systems at the front. In 2024, Ukraine increased military production by 8 times. By the end of 2025, it is planned to produce 3 thousand missiles.

Ukrainian engineers are currently working on creating a long-range missile. One of these missiles could be the Bars, which was discussed back in April 2024.

The source writes that in reality it will be a hybrid between a cruise missile and a long-range UAV.

The missile will be powered by a turbojet engine and will be able to fly up to 800 km. The combat load will be from 50 to 100 kg of explosives.

However, the Bars missile is not one that can change the course of the war, the source writes. Experts recalled that in 2024 Zelensky announced a successful test of a ballistic missile engine.

It is possible that this is about the modernization of the Sapsan OTRS. Ukrainian officials have made it clear that the missile program is a secret that only Zelensky can talk about out loud.

Kyiv announced that since 2014, the number of state-owned and private defense industry enterprises in Ukraine has grown to 100 and 700.
