Finland has officially joined the Special Tribunal for crimes committed by russia against Ukraine.

This brings the total number of participating countries to 21. The agreement on the tribunal’s legal framework is expected to be put to a vote at a meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in a few weeks.

The Special Tribunal is being proposed because the International Criminal Court and other institutions currently lack jurisdiction to prosecute the crime of aggression, which Ukraine insists must be addressed.

When the full-scale invasion began, many expected Ukraine to fall within days.

On paper, the outcome seemed obvious. A smaller country, a weaker army, facing what had been called the second-strongest military in the world. The math didn’t favor Ukraine.

And yet the opposite happened. Ukraine resisted, adapted, and held.

Here are the numbers that are fatal to the illusions of “good Russians.”

According to the logic of many people, “only Putin is to blame, while the Russian people have nothing to do with it,” as they are supposedly kind and peace-loving.

Everything is radically different. It is precisely occupations, seizures, cannibalism, and invasions that provoke wild popular enthusiasm and bursts of adoration for the authorities.

Any atrocity, including outright genocide of neighbors and small nations, inevitably triggers waves of joyful public emotion and drives the Kremlin’s ratings to the sky.

But a clear inability to shed blood, to seize and subdue those who do not want to be subjects of the “Russian world,” generates dissatisfaction with the authorities.

The explanation is simple. Right now, all services are searching for reasons behind the growing disappointment of the masses in Putin.

As it turns out, the cooling and contempt toward the country’s leadership are not connected to the endless war crimes of Russia in Ukraine, but to the fact that the last hopes of placing the Russian boot on Ukraine’s throat have faded.
