We saw this during a crash in Carolina. Our military was incapable of even finding the plane, asking locals to look for it. How much lower can we sink, really?!
Honestly that is to be expected.
F-35’s do not send signals on purpose when they crash as they have sensitive technology that they don’t want China nor Russia to retrieve.
It wouldn’t have been difficult to add a device to track the plane, but the problem is that everyone could pick it up.
Also it isn’t certain that maintenance issues caused the crash. When something is wrong with a plane they simply won’t fly it.
Many of the grounded planes can have very minor issues that theoretically do not keep them from flying. They also count planes as inoperable when one of more of the dozens of functions the plane has do not work properly, but the plane may fly just fine.
If the Ukrainian Air Force would have been using the definitions of the U.S. Air Force, probably 0% of the aircraft will be considered to be airworthy.
Of course, 55% is not great, but they have large numbers of them and the equipment is extremely complex and state of the art. I think 90% is almost impossible to achieve, I think even the fairly simple F-16 can barely reach 90%.
