The European Commission report states that Ukraine has done everything to bring its accession to the EU closer.

Ukraine has completed all the steps that were previously outstanding and defined in the 2022 European Commission opinion, according to an updated report on EU enlargement, according to Radio Liberty .

“Ukraine continued to promote integrity and merit in the judiciary, as well as strengthen its anti-corruption institutional framework and improve enforcement results in high-level corruption cases,” the report says.

In addition, Ukraine’s efforts in relation to the rights of national minorities are positively noted in a separate point. This was insisted upon, in particular, by the Hungarian government. The European Commission states that Ukraine “has reviewed the legislation on the protection of the rights of persons belonging to national minorities.”

“The restrictions on fundamental rights associated with martial law remain broadly proportionate,” the report says, although work needs to be done to further implement updated legislation on minority rights.

It also says that “further efforts are still needed” in such processes, despite progress in fundamental reforms. It also speaks separately about creating reliable experience in law enforcement in cases of high-level corruption and in the fight against organized crime. And also about the need to improve reform in the area of decentralization and public administration.

If Ukraine fulfils all the conditions, the European Commission expects negotiations on the negotiating sections, starting from the basics, to open in 2025.

According to the information contained in the report, “the screening of Ukrainian legislation is progressing smoothly.”
