On the shield: former mayor of Uman Oleksandr Tsebriy died at the front

He went to defend Ukraine from the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

The former mayor of Uman (2015-2020) in Cherkasy Oblast, Oleksandr Tsebriy, died in Donetsk Oblast .

His wife Natalia reported this on the defender’s page on the social network Facebook . “Tsebriy Alexander Vladimirovich on the shield. 04.06.1974 – 24.07.2024. Heroes do not die! Blessed memory…” she wrote.

The head of the Cherkasy regional military administration, Igor Taburets, wrote in Telegram that the former mayor of Uman joined the ranks from the first days of the full-scale war. “A glorious warrior. A brave man. A reliable brother. A machine-gun platoon commander. Junior sergeant. Condolences to the family! Condolences to the 58th separate motorized infantry brigade named after Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky,” he noted.

Dnipro Mayor Boris Filatov reported on Telegram that Tsebriy died in the arms of his comrades during the assault. He was seriously wounded. “Sasha, my brother, how is this possible? How?” he wrote.

What Cebrius wrote about the war

His messages were never pompous, he talked about everyday life in the military, sometimes with a little irony. Three days ago, a man told about a night trip 20 km to enemy positions.

“Towards morning I returned completely wrung out, even the laces of my boots were wet. I threw everything off, washed myself with a bottle and passed out without even feeling the boards of different thicknesses from which the decking is made and which, as a rule, violently press on the ribs. I have a favorite type of whiskey (lots of smoke and peat). So, I felt its taste in my sleep. I was at home, in my favorite chair, among my family, with a glass of whiskey. A cool dream, I hope prophetic. And someone, please, be the mayor during this period!” he wrote on his Facebook page .

On July 1, the former mayor of Uman reported that Russian women imprisoned for serious crimes had come to fight against Ukrainians. According to him, in one of the directions only Russian women were going on assaults .
