The number of servicewomen in the Armed Forces of Ukraine has almost doubled over the past seven years.
As Ukrinform learnt from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 16,557 women did military service in 2013, while the number of Ukrainian servicewomen in 2020 was 31,757. Of them, the Ukrainian army had 1,633 women officers in 2013 and already 4,810 women officers in 2020.
Over the past seven years, Ukrainian servicewomen have taken part in international peacekeeping and security operations: two women officers in 2013 and already six servicewomen (five officers) in 2020.
In 2014-2020, more than 13.5 thousand women were granted a combat veteran status for participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation / Joint Forces Operation in eastern Ukraine. In particular, in 2014, the status was granted to 101 ATO participants, in 2020 – to 19 ATO participants and 1,643 JFO participants.
Currently, 925 women officers occupy command positions and the total number of servicewomen in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is 56,726 people.

Does anyone know if women are allowed to participate fully in battle as combat troops with the the same status as the guys? I’m not sure if that is allowed even in Israel. I’m neutral on this issue, but I think women could be very useful in specialist roles such as snipers: they are slimmer, lighter, don’t need so much food and could attract less suspicion when inside enemy territory.

I don’t think they will fight in the first row. But surely as part of special elite forces they might be allowed to fight in a close encounter. Armies don’t waste their most valuable citizens first, but last.

It is very sad that these women are needed at all, but when you have such a large and savage opponent, you need to access every possible resource. If these women and girls want to volunteer to fight, then the more the merrier. For the foreseeable future, Ukraine will need to keep expanding their military exponentially and that means they simply must grow their economy.
The article was informative, but one bit annoyed me:

I think that is such bullshit. Can you imagine that eg North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania etc are even remotely comparable to Ukraine’s forces in capability? In fact out of Nato I would expect only the US, Canada, Britain, France and Germany to perform better than Ukraine. The others are mostly crap. Poland may well be on a level par with Ukraine though.
The compatible with NATO standards is just an excuse to say, no you can’t come in, we might upset Russia.
You can strike Germanystan from your list, Mr. Scradge. A military that has been led (into ruins) by TWO women, both of whom have never served, cannot and is not what it should be. Hardly any tanks or aircraft are in good working order and so much more has gone wrong. It is a shadow of its former self.

Although some women can hold their own in most combat situations, it is not a good idea to use them except for exceptions. Men will be distracted by them and feel an over-blown need to protect them.
Israel is another country surrounded by hordes of savages. They had no choice but to use their women and male and female soldiers serve side by side in everything except combat duty.
And, Israel has done a great job keeping the savages at bay and even gained territory from them.
