Not Afraid of Russian Attacks: Turkish Container Ships Return to Odessa

Turkish container carrier Medkon Lines has resumed cargo delivery to Ukraine.

The T Moon ship docked at the Odessa port on February 4, the Turkish Consulate reported.

The new container line “Istanbul – Gebze – Odessa” is currently served by two container ships – T Moon and Medkon KRM. The schedule of calls to our city provides for weekly delivery of cargo.

Let us recall that last summer Medkon Lines made its first trips to Odessa Oblast, but systematic missile attacks by the Russian Federation on port infrastructure forced the carrier to suspend operations. In December, the company again announced its desire to return.

Medkon Lines is considered a relatively small company with an office in Istanbul, it operates a fleet of 23 vessels with a total capacity of 35 thousand containers. Its representatives noted that they “will continue to maintain strong ties with Ukraine in the field of maritime transport and provide reliable logistics solutions.”

Dumskaya columnist Alexey Sukhoi believes that the return of container carriers to our ports is a good sign.

“The shelling of the Odessa region infrastructure last fall did not frighten the carriers. Large companies did not even suspend flights, and smaller ones, such as Medkon Lines, quickly decided to resume deliveries. The Russian Federation’s plan to “scare” the Europeans did not work. Even taking into account the inadequacy of the Moscow leadership, they understand that terror against the merchant fleet will lead to retaliatory actions from the Ukrainian side, we have the strength and means for this,” the observer noted.
