The country’s government not only allowed the production of NATO shells, but also agreed to finance the process.

Minister of Strategic Industries Alexander Kamyshin reported that Norway has transferred to Ukraine a license for the production of 155 mm Nammo artillery shells.

“We are grateful to Norway for the license to produce 155 mm shells. Negotiations with the Norwegian-Finnish Nammo have been ongoing for a long time – and I am pleased to announce that today the Norwegian government not only allowed the transfer of the license to produce NATO-caliber artillery shells to a Ukrainian company, but also agreed to finance this process,” he wrote on Telegram .

The Minister noted that this is already the second license for the production of 155 caliber shells in Ukraine – the first was a license from KNDS/Nexter. “We will always be grateful to our partners for help in the form of shells, but we are even more grateful for the support of local production. It is important to produce as many shells as possible in Ukraine both from the point of view of efficiency and logistics, and from the point of view of the economy,” Kamyshin added.

In turn, the Norwegian government officially informs that it has opened the way for the transfer of Norwegian defense technologies to Ukraine, and the country is allocating funding for this.

“Norway is currently contributing by donating ammunition from its own stockpiles and directly from industry. Now Nammo wants to share its technology with Ukraine. This means that Ukrainian forces will be able to receive supplies more quickly,” says Norwegian Defence Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.

License from KNDS/Nexter

As UNIAN reported, in March it became known that the Franco-German arms concern KNDS would open a division in Ukraine. At first, the company would produce ammunition and spare parts for its artillery systems , and would subsequently set up production of the weapons themselves.

The holding company, founded in 2015 by the French Nexter and the German Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, is engaged in the production of armored vehicles and artillery systems. Nexter also produces CAESAR guns, which are in service with the Ukrainian army.
