The DPRK showed these drones in July 2023.

The U.S. military is keeping a close eye on North Korea’s new drone , which uses a “repurposed copy” of the Hellfire missile found on the MQ-9 Reaper and RQ-4 Global Hawk, U.S. General Patrick Costello said at the 2024 Association of the U.S. Army conference, Business Insider reports .

“North Korea recently unveiled a reconnaissance and multi-role UAV that uses a redesigned copy of the Hellfire missile, similar to the RQ-4 and MQ-9,” he noted.

According to him, in general, Pyongyang is developing drones of groups 1-3, that is, those that weigh about 600 kilograms or less.

“Because we look at all the relationships that are being built in all the conflicts around the world, we watch this very closely,” Costello said.

The US Army general was most likely referring to several drones that North Korea unveiled in July 2023, which looked like two of the US Army’s most advanced UAVs, the MQ-9 Reaper and RQ-4 Global Hawk.

Such a statement may indicate that the US military believes that the UAVs were at least created with some knowledge of American equipment.
