South Korea claims that the DPRK has sent several thousand of its troops to Russia and is isolating their families.

South Korean intelligence reports that the DPRK has already sent approximately 3,000 of its troops to Russia to support Russian occupiers in the war against Ukraine .

In addition, it is noted that North Korea isolates the families of selected servicemen “in order to effectively control them and thoroughly deal with rumors,” Reuters writes  , citing South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS). In addition, it is indicated that in addition to this number of DPRK military personnel, thousands more will follow to Russia.

Pyongyang has promised to provide a total of about 10,000 troops, with the deployment expected to be completed by December, the report said.

Russia denies deploying North Korean troops or supplying weapons from North Korea, although both countries “have pledged to strengthen military ties and signed a mutual defense treaty.” South Korean intelligence committee lawmaker Lee Seong-kwon noted that Russia, in addition to military personnel, has recruited “a large number” of translators for North Korean soldiers, while training them to use military equipment such as drones.

“Russian instructors assess that North Korean troops have excellent physical qualities and morale, but they lack an understanding of modern warfare methods such as drone attacks,” he added.

What is known about North Korean military in Russia

UNIAN previously reported that North Korean troops could become cannon fodder for Russia . In addition, the status of North Korean military in the Russian hierarchy could be affected by the “significant level of racism” in the Russian Federation.

In addition,  the Pentagon confirmed that North Korean troops are in Russia . However, they still have no idea “what they are doing there.”
