Nord Stream 2 Completion Rescheduled

The project was claimed to be completed by the end of this year, but works stumbled several months when the Danish Energy Agency has held over the decision on construction works in its territorial waters

A Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline operating company, Gazprom-controlled Nord Stream 2 AG plans to finish construction of the pipe in spring, 2020, the Ukrainian online service DW reported with link to dpa.

“The company has forwarded the request on the change of the terms of the project to the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany, a spokesman of the Nord Stream 2 AG gas pipeline company told dpa on Saturday (Dec. 14). Agency is expected to consider the request on Dec. 16,” Agency cites.

The project was claimed to be completed by the end of this year, but works stumbled several months when the Danish Energy Agency has held over the decision on construction works in its territorial waters. Denmark unblocked construction only in October.

The Nord Stream 2 project involves the construction of a new pipeline from Russia across the Baltic Sea to Germany, in addition to the already operating Nord Stream gas pipeline. Its capacity is expected to reach 55 billion cubic meters of gas every year.

Nord Stream 2 is wholly owned by Gazprom and co-financed by five European energy companies: Shell, Engie, OMV, Wintershall, and Uniper.

As reported, the US Congress confirmed amendments to the defense budget, to sanction companies, involved in Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline construction.

Not when the Senate pass the defense bill next week and Trump signs it. The pipeline will just be another pile of Russian rust in the sea.

  2. At the very least , it will be delayed long enough to allow Ukraine to negotiate a new 10 year gas transit agreement and force Gazprom to repay its arbitration debt through the supply of gas .
