Yulia Navalnaya has been considered a leading critic of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin since the death of her husband, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny . However, her comments on the war in Ukraine are now causing outrage, BILD writes .

In particular, in an interview for Die Zeit, the wife of the deceased oppositionist answered how she feels about the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ offensive in the Kursk region. According to her, this situation “has two sides.”

Navalnaya believes that such attacks will further unite the people of the Russian Federation and strengthen Putin’s power.

When asked whether she considered the supply of weapons to Ukraine to be the right decision, the public figure noted:

“It’s hard to say. The bombs are hitting Russians too.”

Also during the conversation, Navalnaya notes that this is only “Putin’s war.” However, when she was reminded that it is ordinary Russian soldiers who kill Ukrainians every day, she responded:

“Of course, people fight. But it’s his war.”

In turn, Navalny’s widow emphasized that someday Russia will have to apologize to Ukraine.

In a commentary for BILD, foreign policy expert for the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) Roderich Kiesewetter noted that Navalnaya “has no sympathy” for the Ukrainians who are being killed by Russia.

“It is clear that she does not understand Ukraine’s legitimate right to self-defense, which clearly allows and supports Ukraine’s military offensive into Russian territory,” he added.

Kiesewetter believes that Navalnaya is “a partner who is not trustworthy for responsible policy within the framework of international law” and is rather “an advocate for Russia’s imperial claims.”

At the same time, historian Ilko-Sasha Kovalchuk wrote on his page on the social network X :

“This interview shows a Russian opposition figure who gives little reason for hope.”
