Ukrainian investigators have released new findings from the wreckage of Russia’s Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile following a recent strike near Bila Tserkva in the Kyiv region. According to the analysis, the missile carried inert warhead simulators made of metal and concrete rather than explosive payloads, continuing a pattern reportedly seen in previous Oreshnik strikes.

Recovered debris also provided Ukrainian specialists with a closer look at the missile’s internal structure. Investigators identified a warhead deployment unit responsible for separating multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles, confirming that the system uses six main warhead elements that further divide into smaller submunitions during descent. Analysts say this configuration creates the distinctive multi-impact strike pattern associated with the Oreshnik system.

The examination additionally uncovered electronic components manufactured primarily in Russia and Belarus, including parts dated as far back as 2018. Earlier forensic investigations of Oreshnik debris had already suggested the missile relies heavily on older Soviet-era technologies, including analog guidance hardware and vacuum-tube style electronic systems rather than fully modern digital architecture.

Defense analysts believe the findings may weaken some of Moscow’s public claims surrounding the Oreshnik program’s technological sophistication and destructive capability. At the same time, the missile continues to represent a significant strategic threat due to its speed, MIRV-style payload configuration, and potential nuclear delivery role. The investigation highlights how modern battlefield intelligence increasingly depends on forensic analysis of missile wreckage to uncover the true capabilities behind highly publicized weapons systems.
